FRIENDS FEST 2017: PLANT SALE AND RENAISSANCE FAIR


Come join us for Friends Fest on April 29th, 2017!  Friends Western School is hosting a day celebrating Spring with music, food, kids activities, lectures, a plant sale and Renaissance fair!  Admission is free.  Thee doth not want to miss this celebration of Spring with ye FWS community!

Performance:  The Have More Fun Stringband

The Have More Fun Stringband is a collection of old time musicians from Los Angeles.  Fronted by fiddler Ben Guzman (Triple Chicken Foot), the band plays hard driving dance tunes, crooked gems, and sings with force.  Having gathered tunes sitting knee to knee with folks all over the country, Guzman and his Have More Fun Stringband range from lonesome mountain tunes, hopeful gospel songs, western cowboy songs and more.  Get ready to Bust Down!

Delonte Gholston & Jasmine Abdullah of Black Lives Matter: Trust Talks on the Continuum of Police Reform
Delonte Gholston is committed to using his passion for art, theology, and social change to bring life and flourishing both to cities and to rural areas. This passion fuels his work with the Downtown LA Clergy Council where he serves as the Director of the Trust Talks, a new approach to trust building and community transformation between the LAPD, housing and public health service providers, activists, loft dwellers, business owners, the un-housed, and other key stakeholders in Downtown LA. 
Jasmine Richards Abdullah is a grassroots organizer and the founder of Black Lives Matter Pasadena. She focuses her organizing around the youth of northwest pasadena she provides them with a safe space to learn, grow and boost their self-esteem. She is the first person in the nation to be charged and prosecuted for felony lynching due to her organizing work.

Eco-Conscious Vendors

Parks Project takes the concept of giving back to nature and applies a dash of environmental social enterprise. As a for profit business, we use the sale of an array of apparel and accessories to connect consumers with park conservancies. Each product purchased contributes directly to one of over 30 different conservancies across the USA, providing vital funding for the ongoing care of National Parks.
